The beach mats were adhered to the old ceiling tiles using contact cement. (Gallons of the stuff!)

Since day one we had hated the brick fireplace. There are pretty bricks and there are ugly bricks; these were decidedly in the latter category,

Note the screen and center channel speaker (on a temporary shelf). These had been up for some time and we had already enjoyed many a movie.
