We built custom soffits that formed a giant "U" around 3 walls of the room. On the two walls that were entirely windows, we left about a 3 inch gap behind the soffits. This made room for the (elegant, chocolate brown velvet theater) curtains and hid the traverse curtain rods. I was worried that it was going to look odd, but it didn’t at all when it was finished.
